...In their primary residence, the sea ice. I had the unexpected opportunity to visit the Arctic Ice in July 2015 on the M/S Stockholm with our expedition leader, Rinie van Meurs, and our photo lead, Dana Allen. We started in Svalbard and headed north into the sea ice. For the next eight days, we photographed and observed the polar bears in their natural habitat. It was surreal. I have no words. Sadly, their natural habitat in the sea ice is changing as our climate changes. It has been suggested that in the next 20 or so years it may melt entirely during the summer leaving changing life of the polar bears as they know it.
